🕯️ In Memoriam

Scott Kakavis

1968 – 2024

Board Member · Volunteer · Champion · Friend

Scott Kakavis was not just a member of The Pinball Asylum. He was one of its architects. From the earliest days of a single crowded room to the world stage of IFPA17, Scott was there, sleeves rolled up, machines humming.

Scott joined the Asylum community in its infancy and quickly became indispensable. As a board member, he helped guide the organization through its growth, from the original 700-square-foot space, through the 2016 big expansion, and into the modern era of Pinball Asylum 2.0. He understood the mission deeply: that pinball is an art form, a sport, and a community worth preserving. Beyond his role on the board, Scott was a fixture at events, a familiar face always willing to help set up machines, troubleshoot a problem, or welcome a newcomer to their first tournament. The Asylum's volunteer spirit is embodied by people like Scott: those who show up not because they have to, but because they love it. He was also a serious player. In 2021, Scott won the Asylum Inmates Pinball League championship, a season-long competition that demands both skill and consistency. It was a fitting tribute to a man who brought that same consistency to everything he did for the Asylum. Scott passed away in 2024. He leaves behind a community that is richer, stronger, and more vibrant because of his contributions. Every machine that flips, every tournament that runs, every new player who discovers pinball for the first time at The Pinball Asylum: that is Scott's legacy.
